North Norfolk Labour Party is campaigning against the rise in car parking fees at the local Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, and wants to see the increase scrapped, as well as an end to car parking fees at our local hospitals.
We believe that car parking charges in NHS hospitals are a tax on sickness, and may well reduce the number of visits that people make to their sick and lonely loved ones when they are most vulnerable.
Furthermore, we consider the collection of revenues by profit-making private companies to be incompatible with the not for profit ethos of the NHS. We also object to the such charges being imposed on NHS staff.
We note that there are no such car parking charges in hospitals in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and we are calling for hospitals in England to follow suit.
The news that the local Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is to increase car parking charges is disappointing, and we believe a step in the wrong direction.
Please sign and share the petition on the right handside of this website. There will also be an event in North Walsham Market Place on Saturday 26 November from 10.00am where we will be petitioning residents on this issue.
We are calling for the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital to scrap their proposed increase in car parking charges, and for local hospitals to provide free parking as per in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
